Look, you guys know me. And if you know my little miracle baby, you know that he’s a huge fan of the prog rock indie pop band, The Wiggles.

So when we were invited to the premiere of Apples and Bananas, the latest masterpiece from the fearsome foursome, my three-year-old was just over the moon.

“Wiggles! Wiggles! Wiggles!” he chanted all the way to the theatre.

Of course, when he realised we were going to watch the film in the same place he was traumatised by Frozen, he changed his tune.

“Nooooooooooooooo!” he screamed. “Turn this car around! Get me the $%$#& out of here!!”

I had to hold his hand as we walked up to the theatre and assure him that this would be a very different experience. But he didn’t believe me – until he saw Dorothy the Dinosaur in the lobby!

Dorothy was slapping around a concession stand worker for not filling up her popcorn bucket to the brim.

Just kidding, you guys. She was greeting the children, her adoring fans, and taking pictures with them, which didn’t sit well with my son.

“I can’t believe I have to wait to take a picture with basically my best friend,” he said. “How many of these vultures are real fans? Have they always supported Dorothy the Dinosaur like I have? Where were they when she got that DUI?”

But all that negativity washed away when the movie started. My son ate popcorn and smiled the smile of a truly contented person. A person who had finally found his home.

After the screening, I asked my son what he thought of the film. Here’s his review (he’s only three, so some of the grammar might be a little off…):

The Wiggles have outdone themselves. 17 stars for this one. There wasn’t a false note in the whole thing. I completely believed everything they said about both apples and bananas and I would definitely see it again. In fact, I will see it again. And again. And again. And again. Until my parents are driven completely insane. I don’t give a $^#&. Like I said, 17 stars.

On the way out, we were given an amazing gift bag that held all sorts of wonders…

My son has already gotten a lot of mileage out of the Apples and Bananas DVD, which is out now. Go buy as many copies as you can!

He also loved the t-shirt:

I assumed this shirt was for me, but I had a little trouble squeezing into it:

Not that I was complaining. I got to drink a beverage out of my very own Robocup:

Afterwards we stopped it at a local German joint for a quick bratwurst or two and my son couldn’t have been in a better mood.

“Guten tag!,” he shouted as we entered. “Wunderbar!”

So it was an amazing day all around and we owed it all to The Wiggles (and Roadshow Entertainment and Bec Brown Communications, who were  wonderful about everything).
